The Avis N. Robbins collection contains correspondence written to her from 1908 through 1959 by various friends and family members in addition to soldiers from both World Wars. This time period covers her adolescence; marriage to Hugh Robbins and the births of their three children, Enoch, Richard, and Virginia; as well as her years as a grandmother. The bulk of the collection consists of wartime letters from her husband (WWI) and children (WWII).

Living in Bridgton, Indiana, Avis N. Robinson and her high school friends wrote to each other about the prospect of getting married and then supported each other as their spouses went to fight in World War I. In June of 1917, Avis married Hugh Robbins, a brakeman for the Central Indiana Railway Company. He later enlisted with the artillery and trained at Forts Hamilton and Wadsworth in New York.
